This has got to be the worst backup solution ever. I have a “My Passport” drive. At first when I sinstalled my software it killed my machine (xp sp2)- totally unusable.
Upgraded the software and it seemed to run ok. However the hard drive was spinning continuosly so I disconneted the hard drive. Next day when I conected it my machine was unusable. Why does it have to keep constantly backing up
?
The harddrive spinning all the time is sure to have detrimental affect on the drive’s lifspan.
Is there no way to schedule a differential backup after the initial full backup has completed? Say once a day or perhaps once an hour if required.
As it stands the current sofware backup solution does not work for me.
How western digital can get away with distributing this software is beyond me.
Does it work for anybody?
Am I missing something perhaps? Any help with this would be grately appreciated.
Smartware is designed to be a continuous backup program. The time it takes to complete the first backup will depend on how many files you have in your computer, once the first backup is complete, Smartware will recognize when a new file is created or added to your computer hard drive and it will create a copy. Although Smartware is provided with the Passport, it is by no means required for utilizing the drive, nor is its use mandatory for backups, as the drive can also be used for storing backups with a 3rd party backup software.
" Smartware will recognize when a new file is created or added to your computer hard drive and it will create a copy."
with that… then it just mean that smartware will be eating up my resources? As far as i know Smartware will actually act like an anti virus scanner. So like an anti virus scanner if my computer doesnt have an average specs then it would just mean that i will be lagging all though out each time smartware scans for changes? is that correct?
Yes, Smartware is always running in the background, it is designed like that for users that want to have a copy of their important files as soon as possible. Smartware should run fine on any dual core or above computer. For older computers it’s better to manually backup the files or use a 3rd party option that allows you to schedule a backup.
I have a new 2TB My Book external Drive with SmartWare installed. I was able to make a backup of my C; drive and my D: drive, but I had to tell the software which one to backup, one at a time. When I had Anywhere Backup I was able to select both drives at the same time.
So, can I adjust the settings so my SmartWare copies both drives without doing it one at a time?
Does does SmartWare auto-backup both drives at the same time, or do I have to select each drive one at a time?
