I have a WD passport ultra 4TB. I backed up my files and reset my PC. After resetting my PC i connected the Passport. However, it is not listed as a drive. the device is listed in devices and printers but I can not access my backup files. How do I rectify this please?

The possible causes for such an issue can be an incompatible file system, missing drive letter, disk driver issues, damaged partition issues on the hard drive. In a worst-case, the drive itself is failing.

You can try the below fixes to resolve the issue:

  1. Initialize the drive or drive partition
  2. Change/Assign drive letter

I have same issue with MyPassport ultra . Have 5 other drives which are all OK. This one is not recognised by explorer although light working and disc moving. Eventually says File F not accessible. F was original drive. So “stuffed”?

‘The device is not ready’ error occurs due to reasons such as:

  • External storage device already in use;
  • There are malware attacks;
  • There’s a serious hardware failure due to corrupt USB controller drivers.

Due to this error you will not be able to access your drive. However, you can try the below troubleshooting methods to fix the issue:

  • Run Hardware & Device Troubleshooter
