WD My Passport Ultra not recognized on win 7

Hi,

I bough a external HDD WD My Passport Ultra 1 TB 5 month back. It was working with both USB 2.0 and 3.0. However yesterday it suddenly stopped working. 

I am not able to to see the Icon on My compter, however the device is avialable on device manager. 

I was observing a yellow triangle in the device icon, on clicking it shows driver is missing, hence install the latest SES driver from WD website. Now its is showing as Device is working. however i am still not able to see the icon on My computer.

I can see the device on disk Mangement without any drive assign to it. I tried to assigned the name but its asking me to intialize it first. while clicking on initialize button its giving me the error “The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error”.

Please advise as i dont have any backup of data stored in Hard disk.

Based on the information you have provided I believe this drive has failed and you will need to get it replaced. However, Just for troubleshooting purposes make sure the drive is plugged in directly into the computer USB port and if possible try another USB cable. If you still get the same issue then you know its a drive issue.  It may be possible to still extract the data utilizing data recovery software. There are several kinds of Data Recovery software available. If you do a web search for Data Recovery it will yield plenty of data recovery software options
