WD Backup, Utilities and Security do not recognize my 3TB My Passport Ultra. My Windows 7 converted to 10 PC (conversion done earlier this month) does recognize it under devices, but I can’t get access to it. I get a message from WD Utilities and also WD Security saying, “Attach a supported WD drive.” WD Backup says, “Unable to backup files to My Passport Ultra. Please make sure your drive is connected and accessible.” This started yesterday. I’ve had the drive since February this year, and it has worked fine until yesterday. What do I need to do to fix the issue?
Did you try re-installing all apps? Is this behavior the same on a different computer? Did you try replacing your unit’s USB cable? Did you update your computer’s drivers recently?
I reinstalled the apps and updated my computer’s drivers. The USB cable is the one that came with the My Passport Ultra, purchased new in February. I would be surprised if there’s something wrong with it, but I will find another cable and try it. I don’t have another computer with which to check the external drive.
Thanks for your suggestions.
I went back and double checked my drivers. I had missed updating one. I updated it and connected the My Passport Ultra, and my computer recognized it. Thanks for the good advice!
