Western My Passport not recognized on USB 3.0

Hello everyone,

I have an external HD (My passport 1TB) that is fully fonctionning on USB 2.0 ports but not recognized on 3.0 slots. On my desktop, I figured the problem was because I had just formatted my hard drive and didn’t reinstall the proper drivers or something.

However, my brand new laptop with USB 3.0 doesn’t recognize the external hard drive.

I know it might not be easy with this limited information, but do you have any suggestions with the USB 3.0 problems?

Thank you

Hi, try installing the latest firmware update for your passport model and also install the latest USB 3.0 drivers for your computer motherboard.

It also happened to me once. Finally i figured that my usb 3.0 cable has a defect ( maybe because of the continuous plug -

unplug thing, that the socket has weared and damaged ).

Mine also works at usb 2.0 but not 3.0 that time.

Try replacing your USB 3.0 cable and see if it works.

Thanks for the reply guys. I was wondering where I could buy the cable? Is it a proprietary cable, cause I don’t recognize the port connecting to the hard drive.

If the drive is under warranty WD will probably sned you a new one if the original is defective.
