Hi
A few months ago i bought the WD MyPassport 1TB Usb 3.0 Drive, and never had any problems with it until recently.
My main computer (desktop Win 7 64bit) can detect and use the drive normally with no issues (disk is in NTFS format), but when i try to connect the drive to ANY other computer, such as laptops of various brands, (always Win7 and XP OS) it gives me the infamous *You must format the drive before using it*
This happens no matter how i eject the disk (i always go for safely remove or when computer is turned off and disk spins down). To connect it to other computers i use the small usb mini cable which i got with the disk when i purchased it, and i use separate longer cable to connect it to my main desktop machine.
On those other machines ,drive management detects the drive and assigns it drive letter, but it cannot access it at all or perform basic checks like Checkdisk etc. Live CDs also detect the drive and can manipulate data on it with no problem.
I ran all kinds of tests on it with various software for HDD testing (but not Testdisk) and they reported no problems at all.
I even tried to install WD drivers and software on those other machines i tried to connect it to, but it did not made any difference, it still just asks for format. The disk is clean from viruses etc.
I did made firmware update when i bought it, and besides the drivers, i dont use the password protection feature or other software supplied for it.
Any pointers would be much appreciated, since i use the disk mainly for transfering data from computers that i am repairing, and if i want to transfer some data from and to the disk, it makes it useless in Operating System enviroment.
