WD My Passport - Not working on Mac

Hi I just purchased a brand new WD My Passport 2TB HD and while my Mac can see the drive, it cannot write to it. I tried opening the WD Apps for Mac but nothing happens. Can someone tell me how I can write to this new drive?

I assume you bought the WINDOWS version, not the “My Passport for Mac” version?

If so, out of the box, it’s formatted NTFS which Mac’s can’t write to without adding NTFS support manually.

All you need to do is reformat it HFS+ and you should be good to go.

How do I do that?

Hi,

See if this helps

I have a my passport ultra that was on my mac, but a friend put in their PC. I put it back in my mac and it worked, then all of a sudden today it stopped recognizing it. They told me of this and I can see everything on the PC- is there a way to reformat it back to my mac? Please help. Thank you in advance. Lindsey

This didn’t work for me. Could not erase and rename drive. Msg said operation failed.

Open Terminal and

Type diskutil eraseVolume JHFS+ Bob_SSD /dev/rdisk2

JHFS+ — Journaled HFS+
Bob_SSD — Name of volume
/dev/rdisk2 – disk identifier.
