My New, Blank My Passport is Unwritable

I just got a My Passport 500 GB.

I can’t write to or reformat the disk.

Its file system is NTFS

In the Info section of DiskUtility it says 'Writable: No’ and 'Can Be Formatted: No’

Same thing on Windows 7 and on Vista Pro.

Any suggestions as to how I could get this ■■■■■■ usable?

Could you plug the drive to the Mac computer?

Go to Disk Utility.

Highlight the WD drive. 

Run the Verify Disk, if it find anything bad, then run the Repair disk.

After that try create a Partition and format it.

If it work, good, done.

If it still won’t let you do that , take the drive back and exchange it.

FYI: Mac can read the NTFS but can not write to it.

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t even run the verify disk.
