Hi,
I have a WD My Passport Essential 3.0 Gen2 1TB. After 2 years of using it without any trouble, it stopped working. The blue light is on, it appears in Device Manager as USB connected, but I cannot access it - it says I need to format it, then it says “Data error (cyclic redundancy check)”.
I changed the drive letter - no results.
Changed the USB cable - no results.
Tried connecting it to another computer - no results.
I tried using WD Drive Utilities, but the tests failed (quick at 90%, complete right away).
I have some pictures and videos on that drive, so I don’t want to format it.
Is there any way I can access or recover them?
