I recently bought the WD My Passport with the intention of leaving it plugged in all the time, and only backing up when there was a change of files. It seems this drive doesn’t have that option? Can someone confirm.
Hi cot 266,
Are you using WD Backup? Use the Backup Now button. You will need a Backup Plan to select which folders & files to backup.
For Smartware, there does not seem to be a easy selection, but you can “Enable Backup” on the “Backup” Tab screen, then disable when finished.
Why bother. Just set up for automatic backup for whatever you need. Only changed or new files get covered. You don’t do anything.

Thanks for the reply.
I am using WD Backup. I’ve set to backup every day. But it seems it backs up the entire 300 GB of my selected folders, and doesn’t delete the previous backup. So with my 1TB drive, I get three days of backups, and then it’s full.
That sure does not sound right. May I suggest you download a new copy of the WD Backup software and maybe WD Drive Utilities and WD Security. And maybe even start all over by erasing the drive and reformat it too.

Ok I will try that and report back. Thank you.
I had the same result after installing the software.
