New to Passport Ultra Backup software

It wasn’t easy (had to call tech support and was told to UNINSTALL Smartware software, and use the Backup software) but I got it installed. Smartware was stalling on first backup.  Anyway, now have some questions I can’t find answers to.

  1. If I delete a file on the PC, when I backup, will it delete in the backup, or do all files once backed up remain?

  2. If I unplug the Passport (thinking it may be wise not to stay connected to avoid damage in lightning etc.), and then replug in every few weeks to back up new files, will it just add to the old backup? And how would I set the schedule for this, since there is no schedule being used?  I just tried this, and it found 16 GB to backup up (but I haven’t made any new files except maybe 1 MB).

Thanks to anyone who can help!

I have similar question. I am using WD SmartPro to back up my laptop with my new WD 1TB drive :). I have a few questions. Hope you can answer those for me. 1) If I delete a document on my laptop will it be automatically removed from backup when the back runs next time - my assumption is it shouldn’t. 2) If I delete a document on WD Backup, will it automatically reappear if it exists on the laptop at the end of the next auto backup cycle?

  1. The WD Smartware is a backup software, not a synchronization software so the data will remain on the backup even if you delete that from the pc.

If you do that, it will no longer be called a backup since a real backup is having the same files in two different locations.

  1. please see page 42 to 48 of the user manual for detailed information about setting up the WD Smartware backup.

Hi, thanks for the clarification about backup and not synchronization.

What about unplugging and replugging? I am NOT using Smareware, I was instructed by tech support to use the BACKUP product that is different, and much smaller (5 meg installation file).  If I don’t use a regular schedule by staying plugged in, do I just set it to monthly to be able to use it ad lib, like every few weeks rather than continual?
