Hello. I hope I am in the right place to ask this question.
My father want to get himself a WD My Book Duo, and I am currently looking to upgrade my storage on my computer. We have been talking about this and have agreed on a swap for the harddrives, if this is posible of course.
So my question is:
Can i buy the WD My Book Duo V2 20TB with 2 x 10 TB hdd, and then change the harddrives in it to 2 x 4tb WD Red? He currently has no use for the 20TB but he is in the need for the simple My Book system for extra storage, where the 8tb would be more than enough.
I know there are some problems that can occur when using the 2 x 4tb that is already well used. But this is not a big deal as the data that is going on the Duo is nothing of importance.
But would the Duo work as expected?
I have read that there might be a problem to use the drives outside of the Duo, due to some firmware on the drives? is this true? If so, is there a way around this?
Also, where would we be in therms of warranty in this situation? And if there is something else we should know before doing this, please let us know where we can find the information.
Hope I could explain our situation well enough for you folks. Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully answer some questions
