I have two WD Elements 12 TB drives, and a new unused empty My Book Duo enclosure. Can I remove the drives from the Elements enclosures and use them as a RAID array in the My Book Duo?
Hi,
When replacing the internal drive of a My Book Duo external drive, please be sure the replacement drive meets the following criteria:
- Only use WD Red or WD Green drives inside the My Book Duo enclosure.
- The replacement drive should be an unformatted (Raw) WD Red or WD Green drive. Western Digital provides software utilities that can erase all the files on a hard drive. Erasing the drive is recommended before installing it in this unit. See Answer ID: 1211 HOW TO LOW LEVEL FORMAT OR WRITE ZEROS (ERASE) TO A WD HARD DRIVE OR SSHD for more information.
- The replacement drive should be at least the same capacity as the drive that failed.
