WD My Book 4TB backing up network files

I’m having trouble getting my My Book Duo 4TB to backup from a network folder (in this case under the G: directory). I work for a small business and we need to run a backup, but the folder we need to back up is on a network drive. I’m running Windows 7, I have the latest updates of the WD SmartWare Pro, but the software can only recognize the C: and E: drives. I have tried re-installing the software and I believe my problem to be more of a software limitation than an error. What is the simplest work-around? It would be possible to directly copy the files to the backup drive, but I would like the capabilities of the software, the main one being scheduling backups. Running a backup during busy hours could lock down the network.

To clarify: the My Book is hooked in to my desktop which is hooked into the network, which we do not have access to, hence the selection of drive.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

At the moment, that’s not possible using the WD Smartware backup software.

You might need to use a third party software to backup a network drive.
