WD Elements SE not recognized

When drive first connected, loaded SmartWare and ran back ups to a point. Then found computer hard drive failing. Had MicroCenter pull all data files from old drive onto Elements drive, since old laptop showed hard drive failed. Plugged into new laptop, and loaded data files. Somehow deleted the SmartWare software from Elements. Couldn’t find version to download on WD website that showed it would work with Elements SE drive. Downloaded WD Backup, but it won’t recognize Elements drive, only shows Dropbox as only available back up media. Is there any other location to find SmartWare, or how do I get WD Backup to recognize drive?

Can you please help us with the model number of the drive, so that we can check the compatibility of the drive with the WD Software.

Hi Foxmark,

Unfortunately, no WD Backup software is compatible with this drive. You have to use the Windows backup feature in order to create the backup of your computer. If you are using Mac computer then you can use Time Machine backup.

Thanks, I guess. How do you explain the fact that SmartWare back up software came with drive, and did work initially? Unfortunately, I did delete it.
