It works neither at the front usb-3.0 port (tower chassis), nor at the backports (mainboardās own ports). It seems to refuse complete initialization, because the windows-sound (dong-dong) for a newly connected usb-drive/stick appears every ~ 5 seconds.
The drive isnāt listed in explorer and also not system-manger (? german Geraete-Manager), where all the components are listed. There is only a mass storage device detected.
The drive is working properly at usb-2.0 ports at the same pc.
The same pc has no problems at all starting and supporting usb-3.0 sticks with full 3.0 speed.
I have the latest usb-3.0 mainboard drivers installed.
I assume, there is still a driver issueā¦ ?!
Can you help me? I would really like to use this hard drive in full speed mode. :[
I tried reinstalling USB-3.0 drivers, tried also different (older) ones - didnāt work yet. At least not for the wd elementsā¦
If I remove the mass storage device from my devices manager and reconnect the WD elements, the driver is installed like the first time I plugged the WD elements in. - And it fails like the first timeā¦
Error is in english like āthe deviceās software could not be installed - usb - mass storage deviceā.
Maybet that helps you.
Interestingly, my UEFI Bios (H87 Pro) detects the WD elements correctly (plugged in USB3.0). Just Windows canāt. (USB3.0)
I can confirm I have the same problem with a USB 3 WD My Passort drive and ASUS H87-PRO motherboard under Ubuntu 13.10.
The WD drives are simply not recognized at all on back or front USB3 ports.
We really could use a firmware upgrade or other solution here guys - without any more buck passing ā¦
Note I have tried all bios options possible re USB settings and changing various PCI-E and BCLK/PEG etc as suggested elsewhere, latest WD firmware Ā - but no change ā¦ ???
I had the same problem : windows 8Ā ding donging and no being able to keep the disk attached in usb 3.0 (only in usb 2.0 it worked).
So baded your findingsĀ I also updated the bios on my Asus H87i-plus to version from the installed version 507 to the newsest version 904, and now the WD external WD Elements disk 1Tb works is recognized in USB 3.0.
Thanks for the Tip, and to the WD specialist out here reading: this is the solution.
