I just purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 about 2 months ago.Set up backup and software and passport worked great until a week ago. Plugged it into every USB port and in device category it pulls up but saying CD drive G instead of being in my local drive category. Computer is saying USB device not recognized and I’ve tried 3 different cords. Checked my backup and nothing is there now. Passport light blinks, it spins/vibrates but no files are there. If I click on CD drive G my computer freezes up. Tried a data recovery tool and as I tried to locate the passport it froze my whole computer up until I disconnected it. Funny thing is I plugged it into my bluray player and my pictures and music pulled up but only 6 of my 70 videos and some folders are showing NO CONTENT. PLEASE HELP, I’ve tried what I could now I’m turning to professionals. Can this be fixed or should I look into a data recovery company and be done?
If some of the files are corrupted, the computer might have problems reading the Passport. On the PC, open the disk management window to see if the Passport is recognized there, if you need to recover your files you can try using a data recovery program, with the help of Google you should be able to find several options. If you don’t need to recover your files, you can format the Passport to use it normally again. Check the link below for the steps.
