Videos Move to MyBook but without sound help!

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a MyBook and formatted it so it would work with my MacBook Pro. I bought it because I have a lot of videos stored in my iPhotos app that I needed to move to an external hard drive to free up space on my laptop (and also to stop them from eating up massive amounts of space in my iCloud). I transferred most of the videos to my MyBook without a problem however, there were about 15 in the middle of the upload that uploaded without any sound. The videos are mainly lectures so the sound is probably the most important part. I went back to my iPhoto app and the videos played fine with sound there. I also tried to erase the videos without sound from my MyBook and then reload them and they reloaded again without any sound. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything would help, thanks!

I’d recommend finding the physical location of those video files within your Mac outside the iPhotos app in order to verify if they lack sound when played straight from a folder by a regular video-playback app. If they do, then they cold be DVD files, which can use a separate file for sound. The sound file itself would be ignored when copied through iPhoto instead of manually.

If the files are single-files that hold both video and sound (For example, an MP4 or MKV file) then I’d still recommend a manual copy.

I also think you lose the audio file. Take DVD as instance, video is stored in Video-TS folder while audio is stored in Audio-Ts folder, check if you lose the audio file while transferring files to My Book.
