I need to scan from my printer/scanner directly to a hard drive. When I plug my WD hard drive into the scanner it won’t recognize it. Is there some way to configure my WD hard drive so my scanner will recognize it and save to it?
Are you plugging the USB drive into the USB port on your scanner/printer?
Check your scanner documentation for supported drive formats, types and sizes. Bear in mind the USB port on your printer may not provide enough power for the drive. Try a flash drive and see if it works. It also may not support large drive sizes.
Thank you for the response. The scanner does recognize smaller thumb drives. I will work around this.

Scanners actually support drives formatted in FAT32, but WDs are usually NTFS or exFAT, which may not work. To resolve this issue I would, firstly say to backup your data so that nothing is lost in reformatting. Now connect the drive to your computer, open Disk Management in Windows or Disk Utility in Mac, and format it to FAT32. Note that FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit. After formatting, reconnect the drive to your scanner and try saving files.
