Uninstall WD Smartware and use Windows backup? WDFME killing CPU

Hi,

Is it possible to uninstall WD SMartware and use Windows backup as the tool to transfer my data from pc to my Passport ?  My pc is grinding to a halt and blue screening and I can see that the CPU with WD Smartware is almost maxing out and quite often.  I only do scheduled backups and do not require real-time scanning for file changes so my Passport is only plugged into the USB at specific times.

Has anyone done this and seen any adverse affects by uninstalling WD Smartware?#

Ultimately I want to free up my laptop resources and see WD SMartware running 23 threads, killing the CPU and nothing else on the pc is running.

Thanks very much,

Yes you can uninstall the Smartware and it can be a resource hog. Just make sure you remove the password if you set one. Are you only interested in backing up data or the entire laptop? I don’t have any experience with Windows backup.   MS makes SyncToy and it’s free. Basically you select a file on PC and then on the other drive and it makes them match.

Hi,

I already have a system image so am just interested in photo, music and any MS Office files.

I’ll take a look at Windows backup and your suggestion.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I use a paid program GoodSync http://www.goodsync.com/ . It’s pretty easy just select the folder to sync and the one you want to update.
