Software on the I-Phone is state-of-the-art and formatting of the stick on the Windows notebook on format “exFat” did not work.
The stick was bought new to save film and image files directly from the I-Phone in order to then to use the data on
other computers (including Windows).

When I used it for the first time, saving the files from the I-Phone to the stick worked.
Also the transfer of files from the stick to a Windows notebook.
After that, the I-Phone no longer recognized the stick and can therefore no longer be used on the I-Phone.

The stick and the files are recognized on the MAcbook.

Formatting the stick on the Windows notebook to the format “exFat” did not work.

Is the only way to completely reformat the stick on the Macbook (exFAT)?

The Type is:
5DDDC4-1T00-G46 Ultra Dual Luxe 1TB (bought on 15.03.2025)

iPhone (iOS) is very strict with metadata and partition quirks, whereas macOS is much more tolerant. I think that the only reliable way is:

1 . Copy all files from the USB drive to your MacBook as a safe backup.

2 . Use Disk Utility to reformat the USB drive as exFAT:

Open Disk Utility → Erase → exFAT → Master Boot Record (MBR) or GUID Partition Table (GPT).

3 . Copy files back to the freshly formatted (exFAT) drive:

Important:

I. Avoid unusual characters in the folder names and file names (such as * ? " < > | ) as they are not fully supported by iOS.

II. Avoid using backup tools and video editing software to write files in your USB stick since they may create hidden files (like .ds_store or Thumbs.db) or change file system structures in ways that can interfere with iOS recognizing the drive and make it unreadable by iPhone.

It sounds like the drive may have switched to a Windows-only file system after you used it on the notebook. iPhones can only read FAT32/exFAT, so they stop recognizing the stick if it becomes NTFS. Try plugging it into a computer, check the file system, and move your data off it. Then reformat the drive to exFAT, which works with both iPhone and Windows. After that, your iPhone should detect it again. If it still doesn’t show up, clean the connector and try a different cable or adapter.
