Hello everyone, I specifically bought a SanDisk iXpand portable hard drive mainly to free up space on my iPhone and make it easier to transfer photos and videos. It worked fine for the first few weeks, but now I can’t seem to get it to connect properly to my phone.
When I plug the iXpand portable drive into my iPhone, a message pops up saying, “This accessory is not supported by this iPhone.” Sometimes the storage device connects briefly, but disconnects after a few seconds. The app recognizes the storage device, but the transfer fails partway through.
Actually, if the product is still under warranty, taking it to the after-sales service center is your best option. You can check the link to have it inspected first.
This sounds like a pretty common iXpand issue. That “accessory not supported” message usually comes down to a shaky connection or power issue. Try cleaning your iPhone’s Lightning port and removing your case; sometimes the connector doesn’t sit properly. A quick restart and app update can also help.
The bigger concern is transfers failing midway. That can mean the drive is becoming unstable. I’d suggest backing up your data as soon as it connects, even briefly. If the same issue happens on another iPhone, it’s likely the drive itself is failing and may need replacement.
Use a toothpick to clean the Lightning or USB-C port at the bottom of your iPhone, removing any accumulated dust from the interior.
Next, update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS, as older system versions may suffer from driver compatibility issues.
If your iPhone still fails to recognize the iXpand portable drive, you will need to connect the iXpand to a computer and use the built-in “Disk Repair Tool” in Windows to check for any file system errors.
Insert the iXpand into a USB port on your computer.
Open “This PC” or “My Computer” and locate the iXpand drive.
Check for errors:
Right-click on the iXpand drive and select “Properties.”
Switch to the “Tools” tab.
Under the “Error checking” section, click the “Check” button.
The system may prompt you to “Scan this drive”; click “Scan drive” to initiate the check.
Alternatively, you may first back up your data and then format the iXpand external drive to the exFAT file system on your computer.
