The apparently unknown player database limitation

I’ve been living off of Sandisk players for a number of years and it appears my old Clip Zip and Clip+ may be soon biting the dust. I have a Clip Sport +, but frustrate with the need to create playlists to listen to my music collection the way I prefer (instead of just organize into folders and subfolders, drop them on the player, then just play whatever folder or subfolder I prefer at the time). In the process of learning how to create playlists for the Clip Sport + (which is convoluted), I was checking to see if all the songs were being accessed and found that the number of songs being reported by Settings>System>Info was less than the number of song files actually in the folders on the device (which agrees with the number of files copied from my PC, except for the apparent addition of a desktop.ini file). So I checked to see if this was unique to my Clip Sport +, and it’s not. Recap below (first number is song files, second is songs per Sys>Info):

Clip Zip = 5,204 vs. 3,225
Clip + = 5,204 vs. 3,511
Clip Sport + = 5,524 vs. 4,747

Thanks for any ideas . . .

I hadn’t tried contacting technical support because I didn’t think the issue I was exploring was an “error” or “defect” with a particular device or app. Since I was finding a consistent pattern across multiple Sandisk players and was just wondering if I was simply misinterpreting what I was seeing or if this is simply a limitation in the design of hardware/firmware of all of these Sandisk devices which cannot be fixed or changed. But since you suggested it, I guess I will now give it a try.
