How difficult can it be to provide the option of a simple password-protected USB (which is all most of us need or want) with the ability to edit documents and not have to drag them outside, save them, and put them back in. Ridiculous.
This morning i was working on a computer with win 7 so I opened up my sandisk and signed in with my pw - made a folder on the thumb - copied all the docs and pics - saved. Did my repair which involve wiping the data on the hd - brought the repaired pc back up and everything now funtioned correctly BUT when I reloaded the cruzer - and typed in my pw it said it was wrong and i had two more trys - try # 2 same result - now it says I have one more attempt - so I log into tech support and chat online with a rep - after getting the model # he asks what os I am using and he say - that my thumb is no longer supported and the only suggestion he has is for me to load it onto an xp - well two hours later I now have found a computer with an xp os and i make my third attempt. That failed too.
So all of the above is to ask the question - am I truly screwed? is my friends data really gone forever or is there a backdoor to this?
I completely understand the security rationale - but can you imagine doing this - gaining access by using the pw then two hours later have the software reject the pw – is there any hope?
I am having the same problem. Created vault copied a boatload files into the vault - all seemed to go well. Went back in to the SanDisk Secure Access Manager a couple of days later and logged in. My Vault shows no files at all. All files can be located on the thumbdrive, but are - of course - encrypted and unsueable. I have been able to find no way to recover them, nor any explanation as to why the files have disappered from the vault manager. Did you ever get a good answer to your question?
I too am having problems. I have followed all the instructions, the software looks as though it is going to load and then an error message comes up - Please run sandisk secure access from a Sandisk external device. I am try to run it from the USB device, but it continually comes up with the same error message. REALLY FRUSTRATED. I see SLOTMONSTA had the same problem but it’s not clear if the problem was solved or not. Please help someone. I have a 64gB Sandisk usb memory.
This is really disappointing. I bought the Sandisc Extreme 32gb as an upgrade from a cruzer 16gb. I have been using the cruzer to work between computers with the U3 password protection system which allows me to sync with SyncToy. Why can’t the vault allow syncing?
My challenge was that it was taking 25 minutes or more to encrypt a 6GB file and then the file never showed up on the Sandisk - no erros no popup just no file(twice). I figured out that the cruzer is FAT32 which has a 4GB limit on file size but no where does the sandisk let you know this. After an amost an hour of my time I reformatted the sandisk with NTFS and did not replace the encryption. - Less than 4 minutes to upload from a USB2 port a 6GB .PST file. I use SANdisk in my cameras Class 10 SD and have been very happy. I have had kingston and other encrypted Thumb drive and have to say that the SanDisk is not as intuitive as it should be. The fact that it fails to tell you before wasting your time that the file is too large for FAT32 ( or that it is FAT32 period) leads me to feel the encryption was not well thought out. For me wiping the drive was no big deal and now without incription it is fast enough. Cheers!!! from a mostly happy SANDisk user
If you are getting an error message Please run SanDisk Secure Access from a SanDisk external device you will have to runthe Run SanDisk Secure Access Win file to the SanDisk Flash Drive instead of running it from your Hard Drive.
