Hey everyone! So I’ve noticed that since the latest update for their Sandisk app for both the iPhone and PC, that it’s suddenly now creating files out of nowhere.
Basically, everytime I upload a video file from my iPhone to my Sandisk iXpand Flash Drive Luxe, the flashdrive drive now creates an extra PNG file with the word “thumbnail.png” in the file name. That ends up taking space because it does that for every video file.
Do we know if this bug will be fixed in the next update or how to deactivate it?
In the software settings, disable the options to generate thumbnails or automatically create previews to prevent additional PNG files from being generated.
It doesn’t look like random files are being created. The iXpand app is generating thumbnail previews for each video and saving them as PNG files. Some apps do this to make browsing faster, but saving them separately like this isn’t ideal.
If there’s no option to turn it off, which I couldn’t find either, then it’s something introduced in the recent update or just a design oversight. The good part is you can safely delete those thumbnail files; they won’t affect your videos.
Hopefully, SanDisk either fixes this in a future update or at least gives an option to disable it, because it can start eating up space pretty quickly.
