Rockbox for the Fuze V1 "Unstable" release

I thought I would give my current experiences with RB on the v1 Fuze. After about 5 to 10 songs, the Fuze will stop playing. It doesn’t crash or anything like that. I can still navigate all of the menus and such, it just stops playing music. I reboot to continue with the music. This could be a memory card issue because I’m playing FLAC files on a 16GB card.

Which rockbox version?  Theres been several improvements to the SD card driver in the last few days.  It would be interesting to know if any improved things.  Also if playing from main memory is more stable.

Thanks for heads up on the improvements to the Fuze RB dev. I installed the latest build onto my v1 Fuze and will comment on whether the improvements have resolved this playback issue as soon as I can. One thing I see so far: the Limiter Preamp adjustment has been dropped. Track skip during screen-off is now much more instantaneous.

I haven’t played through the internal mem yet, so I can’t comment on stability in that regard.

Odd, I have a v1 fuze and have no problems with rockbox (todays build or previous)  and uSDHC…(8Gb sansa brand class 2).

What settings for preamp and the like cause the skipping, and with the defaults does it happen?

I don’t believe the settings were causing the issue my Fuze was experiencing. The particular card I’m using wouldn’t work in my Fuze using the original firmware. It does work in RB, but there could still be some hardware issues being caught up in RB with the card. I’m still evaluating the latest RB build and will report if the mem card issue is resolved when I can.

Its not really necessary to tell me that you’ll answer my question later, nor to tell me about feature changes in Rockbox.  The first isn’t useful and the second I already know about since I work on Rockbox

Just wait until you have something to tell me before you reply to me.  It’ll save us both time.

I was asking if you could try it since it would help narrow down your problem’s cause . . .

My apologies. I will try to make time to listen through the internal mem. However, it might not do any good because so far the Fuze hasn’t stopped playing while using the same card since updating to the latest build.

Excellent work, by the way. All of us RB fanatics really appreciate your valued work…now get busy with the View, c200v2, Clip+…and anything else we want.

Yeah, it’s either resolved or there wasn’t any playback issue with the Fuze v1 int. mem. I have been listening for a while now and would have encountered a stop if it were going to happen.

First my compliments on the current RB port for the fuze

Second, a question: are the remaining issues (for me this includes recording and mpegplayer glitches) being addressed?

I do appreciate this is free work being done by volunteers, so I’m just asking (not pushing)

I decided to use the Database for sorting files and combined with album art and a WPS that shows AA, there is some instability in both int and ext mem. Most of the time it is minor lag in track skip. One time there was a white “Panic” screen, requiring a reboot. All of the time, though, a reboot seems to be required to go from one playing genre to another. Loading a WPS without AA resolves the track skip lag and seems to bring stability. Some AA WPS themes are worse than others, but the worse one I’ve tried is the “Brushedmetal”. InAWhisper seems to be one of the better functioning ones.

I’ve been using Rockbox on my Fuze with few problems. Occassionally the screen glitches, but fixes itself almost immediately. The most annoying bug is when the Fuze reverts to the Sansa firmware after plugging in the USB cable, but this is easily bypassed by turning on the Fuze and holding in the center button whilst pluging in the cable, then it just charges while running Rockbox; the problem with this, though, is if you’d like to place music or such on the Fuze

That’s not a bug, USB isn’t implemented yet (other than the charging as described)

Anybody know how to save a playlist in RB? After much trial I figured out how to erase the default name, but once I have the desired name selected, I can’t save it. Highlighting the field where the name is and pressing selct only erases the letters. Pressing a button cancels the operation.

IIRC its “play” on the fuze to accept a file name in the keyboard, and center to select a letter.

That’s right.

Fuze manual is updated with keyboard button layout.  It was included before, but the table didn’t get drawn due to a mistake.

Just as an update to the Fuze track skip lag I have been experiencing while using the database and album art, and for those who may be having this issue but are unaware of the resolve, I enabled the disk cache and, after a reboot, the lag is completely gone. Just as soon as I press the forward button the next song is qued.

Also, regarding the needed reboot when going from one playing genre to another, I wasn’t aware the dynamic playlist was needing to be erased. Once I select to erase it, any other file or genre of music I select is playable.

As far as I’m concerned, RB for the Fuze is working perfectly and the programmers invloved have my compliments.

For those who might now know, only the 01.02.26 original firmware works with RB installation. I tried the 01.02.28 and couldn’t get it to patch.

The tools can only patch firmware’s released before they were, so newer firmware files won’t work unless you compile your own tool from SVN (either rbutil or mkamsboot).

Why not put reminders to this effect on the lower part of the screen, which is not in use during a file rename operation?

I assume because it’s in the manual?  Admittedly, I try to read as few manuals as humanly possible.
