I bought a WD My Passport Ultra metal portable drive. To use on my Win Vista SP2 64 bt. computer. And I used the WD backup software to make several complete C drive backups.
Last week I was forced to a complete re-install of my Vista operating system.
Today I hooked up my WD drive, installed it’s drivers and software. After re-installing the WD backup software, I got a notice that there was a update available for the backup software, so I updated the software to WD backup 1.5.5953 .
Then I went to restore my C drive backup, it said I can’t restore because i never made a backup. But I have 3 backups, but the restore system doesn’t see them. ( all backups are on the drive) It doesn’t even have a option to manually search for a back up.Thank God I manually copied some of my music, documents and videos to the WD drive . I should be able to copy them back to C drive, but it will be a slow process.
What good is the backup software, if you can’t do a restore after a operating system recovery? That’s when you need a restore. Or did I screw up by updating the software? If there’s a work around to make the restore work, please let me know.
Thanks.
If the application can not link to an older backup then try a manual restoration. Your files are in the SWSTOR folder within your WD My Passport unit. Files are not encrypted and are able to be copied into a desired destination.
