I have an older My Book model, 2TB I think. It turns on when I plug in the external power supply to a wall outlet. It has been working okay over the years, but tonight it presented a problem.
When I plug in the external power supply, a white light appears under the padlock icon on the face of the drive. I can feel and hear the plates inside whirring, but after a few seconds, it cuts off, and the machine is silent. I cannot access the hard drive at all.
What can I do at this point? Is is possible to recover the contents of this external hard drive?
