I recently bought 2 16gb SanDisk Cruzer Switch for my trip to Tibet. After transferring all the photos from my sd card to this usb drive via my mac, I verified the photos on the usb before formatting my sd card. Now, a few weeks later, this one specific cruzer usb isn’t even registering in Finder, System Information, or Disk Utility. I believe its not the actual usb connection of the Mac because other USB drives detect just fine. I’m in a bit of a panic as alot of memorable photos are only on this usb card.
I’m trying to get my hands on a pc to test it on a different OS. I’m running 10.7. Can anyone please assist?
Here’s hoping you have better luck with a different machine.
In the future remember to BACK UP important files. Back up to the pc’s hard drive, a USB hard drive or a second USB flash drive. Drives wear our, burn out and USB drives get lost.
I was at elevation so I couldn’t load any photos on external harddrive. Can you hypothesize what exactly has happened to the USB which accepted the loaded files and I even verified after that they were loaded on the USB stick? Now it doesn’t even detect? Any suggestions to remedy?
It sounds like it’s dead, how could be a wide range of reasons. The contacts oxidized, metalic dust shorted out the contacts, stress on the plug broke something inside, a power surge from the machine fried a chip, low power burned out a chip,
Take it to a local repair shop that you trust and see what they suggest.
