Quick question…
I have a player that is a little older. It’s a 4GB running version V01.01.11A.
If I go ahead and upgrade the firmware to the newest version, if something goes wrong, or I don’t like the way it acts, how hard is it to go back to V01.01.11a?
I’m usually one that says, “If it’s working good, why mess with it.” But I thought I might go ahead and upgrade this older player.
Thanks!
Yes, you can “downgrade” the firmware very easily. But you have to have a copy of the firmware to do it. You can’t use Sandisk’s updater software, as it only installs the newest firmware it can find. You have to do a manual installation (there are directions in the “Sansa Fuze Firmware Update” topic, just use the older firmware in place of the firmware linked to in the topic).
Trouble is, I don’t know if there’s a link anywhere on the board to your current firmware. If it’s the first production firmware (yours may be, .11 is pretty old), Sandisk never posted it, only the subsequent updates. And there’s no way to extract the firmware from your player to use as a backup if you decide to downgrade.

I have a player with 01.01.07a on it. It may be the original unavailable version.
Wow, it’s time to update that rascal! From the original release, just think how many improvements have been made to the Fuze, from updated audiobook / podcast capability, FLAC, ogg, and more.

Ha! I’m not using that player right now so I have not updated it. My daily player works flawless with .11a on it, so that is as far as I went with that one. I only playback MP3 so I don’t need the extra additions right now. I’m another one who lives by the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” rule!
