I took my hard drive (model number WD20000H2Q-00) in the box on a trip to my parent’s house for memorial day weekend, did not use it at all, then came back home and when i plugged it in, it would not turn on … The power connector’s light is on when it is plugged in to the wall (without it being pugged into the device) then once is connected to the Hard Drive the green light begins to blink and the hard drive does not turn on … any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
did you install mybook studio ii drive manager ?
to where you plug mybook studio ? USB / firewire / e-sata
with device plugged
go to control panel > system > device manager
right click and choose scan for new hardware
see if you pc detect it or not
if not, find another pc and test it
PS: sometimes mybook need times before power up… but won’t over than 10minutes
I have already tried it with several computers and nothing is happening … I’m gonna try a different power cord later on tonight.
Before disconnecting it and taking it to my parent’s house it was working just fine. I was using FireWire 400 but I’ve tried connecting through USB. I tried using different power outlets as well.
I’m using Windows 7 64 bit (although I don’t think it has anything to do with the problem)
I am having the same problem with the 1.5tb. I am having a panic attack!
UPDATE ON PROBLEM:
I was using the power supply bundled with my drive. I also tried this power supply with another Hard Drive and it seems to be in working condition. I plugged the external hard drive’s A/C adapter both into a power strip and directly into a wall socket and the hard drive did not turn on. I also removed the data cable from the external hard drive while plugged in and it did not turn on. Finally I tried to plug it into different wall sockets and nothing, which leads me to believe the issue is with the hard drive itself … my guess is the circuit board itself has been damaged somehow.
I understand this type of hard Drive is set up in RAID and it is much more complicated than just taking the disks out and placing them somewhere else. What would you guys recommend? I need to get the data from this Drive as soon as possible and I’m freaking out. I know if I had the SAME type of circuit board i might be able to just replace the disks but I don’t want to risk it. And I believe I do not have warranty on this item. Please help. I am very worried because I work in video production and all of my projects, pictures and data for the past 6 years are in this Drive. It is very important that i do not lose it.
I appreciate your help in advance
