Hi all
I have a Mybook 3T , I have no problems adding media and veiwing files on windows 11, however when i connect it to the usb on my smart tv the tv doesnt recognise the drive so I can’t veiw any content on the tv .
Is there any way this can be done maybe through an app or other means.
Thank you
Brian
You need to check what your Smart TV Supports.
First thing to check is what File System Format your TV Supports. eg. FAT32, NTFS, exFAT etc.
Most older Smart TV’s only support FAT32 which has a maximum file size limitation of 4GB (exFAT & NTFS support files up to and over 4GB)
A lot of older Smart TV’s only support up to 2TB Hard Drives
Mainly because most older Smart TV’s only support MBR Partition Table which is limited to a Maximum capacity of 2TB
Older Smart TV’s don’t support GPT (GUID Partition Table) which supports Hard Drives up to, and over 2TB
In closing, you will need to do some investigating on what your Smart TV supports in relation to
-
File System Format
-
Partition Table Format
-
Maximum Supported Capacity
Thank you.
I will investigate your suggestions, the lg tv i have is only a few months old .
Cheers Brian
Thanks joey

I have an lg 55 lcd smart tv which is only a few months old

Hi joey
My tv is an
LG 55UP75006LF 55 inch Smart 4KUltra HD,HDR LED TV.
Brian
Well, technically it’s over a Year old … released in 12th April 2021
In the link below … scroll down and click on How to use a USB on TV
And it says …
Format: FAT32 and NTFS is Supported
Storage Size : 2TB is the Recommended Maximum Size
Which most probably means the LG TV does not support GPT Partition Table.
Hi joey
Many thanks for your help, we have found a way to make it work.
Plug in the ebook to the laptop then using an hdmi lead from the laptop to the tv i can play the media direct from the ebook drive onto the tv from the laptop.
Its a bit of a messy way but it works great.
Cheers once again
Brian
Yes, that was going to be my last suggestion to use an external device but did not know you had access to one.
Personally, i’ve used Media Players (WD TV, Android Boxes, Raspberry Pi) connected to the TV via HDMI for years which has worked fine.
For 4K HDR content, i use the USB on my 4K UHD TV … none of my external devices support HDR properly, but the TV displays HDR fine from content on the connected USB drive.
Hi joey
If the ebook had an hdmi socket port it probably would have worked ok,
I have a firestick also attached to the tv.
But alls working ok now so iam pleased to be able to view all the content on the ebook via my tv.
Once again thanks for your help and support
Brian
