Hello sloan, welcome to the WD Community. First try running a DLG test to verify that there is no hardware problem. If the test completes sucessfully and you don’t need to recover any of the files, you should be able to format the Passport to use it again.
How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows
How to partition and format a WD drive on Windows (8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP) and Mac OSX
Thank you for your reply.
I tried both options. 1. Failed all test and it says too many bad sector that it stops from accessing the drive. 2. Can’t format the drive also using the guide you have given me.
Thanks anyway
I’m also experiencing a similar problem. the computer detects it as a CD drive. I run the WD Data Lifeguard Diag and it says the capacity is only 250GB instead of 1TB with a PASS smart status. Is there any way to retrieve all my saved files?
I am facing the same problem but the test says my capacity of external HD is 0gb. My all tests are passed. I dont know what to do… Pls help
I have “My Passport 0740 USB device 500GB” that stopped working few days ago. It is detected by Windows 7, as driver F, but with 0 bytes free space and 0 bytes used space. I stored important data on it about 20 GB. The driver is up to date.
If I try to open the device by device manager, the following message is displayed “F is not accessible, the request cannot be performed because of an I/O device error”
I run Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows, running the Quick Test and the Extended Test. It passed but with 0 GB.
I read the Forum, I tried different options. The device is still not working.
Pls help
