My Passport Ultra Crashed my PC this morning- Everything GONE

I have a 2TB Passport Ultra that I bought a few years ago. I had it plugged in and set to “continuous backup”.

Checked the Smartware SW last evening, and it prompted me to move to “Smartware Pro” (I had not checked the drive in a while)…Site indicated SmartWare Pro was no longer available and pushed me to another SW download.

This morning, my wife went to install the SW and it took down my entire PC…Crashed the OS (Windows 10), wiped the drive clean, and reverted PC back to Windows 7 (Which it came from factory) with.

ALL FILEs ARE GONE

200 G of MUSIC= GONE

Work files= GONE

Photos/Spreadsheets= GONE

Drive indicates “No backups found on My Passport Ultra”

Wife has spent 6+ hours today reinstalling OS (Windows 7) and appropriate drivers.

Will never buy a WD product again. Will look for cloud storage option. Your product is garbage.

Hi Kreiss,

WD software installation cannot wipe a drive and revert an OS to a previous version of an OS. IT sounds like the OS was possibly restored to an earlier version possibly however a WD software cannot cause or trigger this.
