My Passport Essential 500GB is not detected

When connected to PC it just starts beeping and the computer detects the hardware but does not assign a drive letter; and when I tested with Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics, it displays as a 0 GB hard drive, so the tests mark as past but really does nothing.

I checked in a desktop and laptop.

Is this fixable? or What should I do?

Hi and welcome,

You can try using another USB cable, also avoid using USB extension cables or USB hubs. Another thing you can try, is connecting the Passport to another PC.

I’ve never used an extension cable or hub, and already mentioned that I used two different computers to test the drive, the only thing I haven’t tried is a different cable, because it’s a USB 3.0 and has different plug, so I don’t have an extra one :confounded:

Micro USB 2.0 cables are also compatible. If it works with the USB 2.0 cable it might be a driver problem.
