My Passport device suddenly needs formatted before it will work

We have an older My Passport, that we use to hook up to our laptop to save files with. It has always worked fine, and suddenly when we plugged it in yesterday, it said: “You need to format the disk in drive E before you can use it.” That would mean we would lose ALL of our files. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

Not sure this will solve your problem, but give it a try.

Do you see a drive “CD Unlocker (?:)Unlocker”? If yes, open that and run “WD Drive Unlock.exe”. Now enter your Password and see if that unlocks the drive. If it is already unlocked, sorry, not sure how to help. Try the Knowledge Base.

Try “simple” first. Safely remove drive from PC. Reboot PC, and when up and running again, plug drive in again and hope for the best.
