I don’t want to leave it connected, and only backup when I choose to do so and plug it in. Thanks.
If you use the Smartware software included with the Passport, the default backup settings are configured so that the backup will only run when the drive is plugged in. The software will continue to track modifications and additions so that way when you plug it in again, the backup will run. It also has a scheduled feature that you can choose to allow the backup to run when you want. In that mode, you can force a backup at anytime as well.
Thanks, Timothy, but I noticed that my computer slowed way down. I checked
and saw that WD processes were running hard even though the Passport was
unplugged. I went ahead and deleted the backup schedule, and the processes
stopped. And so I think something went wrong with the back-up software. Is
there an update, or perhaps would a reinstall fix that?
Thanks, Bob
ps - will I have to start over with a new backup???
