I have recently dragged a .jar file into my usb, but it then immidiately gave the error: Insert disk into usb. I have tried many things but nothing has worked. Can anyone help me?

If your pen drive is showing the error “Insert disk into USB,” it typically means the drive is not being recognized properly. This could be due to file system corruption, hardware issues, or power problems.

First, try plugging the USB into a different computer to see if it’s recognized there. If it works on another machine, immediately back up your data. If it still doesn’t show up, you can try checking the drive’s status using the Disk Management tool on Windows.

If the USB still has a drive letter (like E:), you can run the chkdsk tool to attempt to fix it. Open Command Prompt and type: chkdsk E: /f /r. This will scan and attempt to fix any errors on the drive.

You may take the following steps to see if the problem can be solved:

  1. Assign a new drive letter in Disk Management:
    If there is an existing drive on your computer that is using the same drive letter as the USB drive, Windows may not properly recognize the USB drive. Try assigning a new drive letter to it:

  • Press Windows + R, select ‘Disk Management’.

  • In the list of drives, right-click your USB drive and choose ‘Change Drive Letter and Paths’.

  • Click ‘Change’, then select an available letter (e.g., I: or J:).

  • Click OK

    2. Update / reinstall the USB driver:

  • Go to This PC > Manage > Device Manager.

  • Expand ‘Universal Serial Bus Controllers’

  • Right-click your USB drive and choose ‘Update Driver’.

  1. Use the Clean Command in Diskpart.
    Run the command to permanently erase a disk’s partition information, and then create a new volume on it. Your USB drive should be usable.
