I have a Sansa e260 - but what version?

How can I tell what version Sansa e260 that I have?  Do I need to crack the case? 

In the lower right-hand corner of the back, it says “model: e260” with no reference to any version - so is this R1?

Go into Settings > Info. If the top line (firmware version) starts with V01.XX.XX you have a v1 model. If it starts with V03.XX.XX you have a v2.

One addendum to this: if your player has a second startup screen that say “Rhapsody”, you have an E260R. The E200R is a v1 with a custom firmware designed for the Rhapsody subscription service.
