How to lock the drive

Hi, I have just bought a My book Studio for my iMac, and my surprise is that I can’t lock the HD. On the other hand, the HD show a locked icon. So it is a little bit crazy. Somebody could tell me how to lock and unlock easily the HD.

It is supposed that when I turn off the computer, the next time that I turn on, the HD has to ask me the password, but it doesn’t.

To lock My Book Studio drive do these:

a. Run the WDSmartware software.

b. Click on “Settings” tab to the top right.

c. Click on “Set Up Drive”.

d. Click on “Security” and enter password then Save Security Settings.

Make sure to write the password down, after that you need to unplug and re-plug

the drive before the change to take effect.

That is it, Enjoy.

I am sorry, but I think that that is not the solution, because that you mention it has been already done, and still the same problem :frowning:

To unlock the drive:

1.click WDSmartware icon next to the clock on the top right.

Scroll down to My Book , then Unlock drive.

a. Run the WDSmartware software.

b. Click on “Settings” tab to the top right.

c. Click on “Set Up Drive”.

d. Click on “Security” and enter password then click Update Security Settings.

After that you need to unplug and re-plug the drive before the change to take effect.

  1. Here is another way, copy the DriveUnlock from VCD (Virtual CD) to your desktop.

Run the DriveUnlock  to unlock the drive.
