Hello y’all,
During this upcoming period a lot of Windows users are (considering to) switching from their old & familiar XP, Vista or Windows 7 to Windows 8, so I think I’m not an exception.
So can anybody in this forum give me tips for this next question:
Can I keep using the same WD Smartware backup-procedure AND the same map (named ‘WD SmartWare.swstor’) on my Passport?
As for me, I think it’s better to start a new backupfile / map, but how can I do that without erasing / overwriting the old W7 backup on this same external drive; is it just a matter of renaming ‘WD SmartWare.swstor’ and perhaps some other files and maps on this drive?
Thx in advance!
Grtz,
Jim

Hi, i’m already using it and is working fine, if you start a new backup it wont overwrite the old one, it will just create a new folder with the name of the new computer.

Thanks, Alucard23
So there is an option to start a new backup?
Do I have to close this existing (W7) backup or does Smartware recognize a new system automatically?
I figure this:
-
I make a last backup of all my significant files, apart from the backup that Smartware produced
-
I pull out the external drive with the backup that Smartware has made
3. I start the W8 upgrade,
-
Checkup of my new W8 system, and when somwething has gone wrong I start over with 3, else
-
I connect the external backup drive and start a new backup
Is this correct in your opinion or is there more to consider?
Yes, you only need to install smartware on the new computer, go to the backup tab and then click on start backup, smartware will automatically create a new folder for the new computer.

That sounds good.
