There’s no problem with my stereo finding things within the music folder on the player itself. The problem is that it’s not seeing the SDHC card… I will try putting things into the root directory of the card’s disc image (in MSC mode), and see if that works. I’ll try files as well as “artist” folders with files in them. I’m doubting this will work… we’ll see. Any case, a tiny little sdhc reader is pretty cheap and super small, right?
I have a somewhat silimar problem in that I have a 2010 Ford Escape with MS Sych and it is supposed to allow mp3 players to attach either via aan aux cable or a USB cable. Problem is that When I plug it in I get a message that sych will not play protected content, it only spends a couiple of seconds indexing 6gb of music and then will only play some voice files.
Changing the mode to MSC will make it an 8gb flash drive so that is not good. So what do I do next ??

If I recall, someone else with the Ford-MS Sync system posted here some time ago. You should be able to find the thread using the Search function. If memory serves, the key to this one was MTP mode, although if you’re trying to play DRM-crippled music you may be SOL unless you do it through the headphone jack. This would not allow using the car unit’s controls however.
I can’t believe I didn’t know about this “trick” until I just read this thread. How cool is this!
I have a lower-end Dual head unit with both an aux input and USB input and have been playing my Clip and Fuze through the aux input for months. No problems at all. Just a little hard sometimes changing songs/albums/artists via the player while trying to drive. And, of course, the player’s battery is being used all the time.
I just got back inside from testing the USB method and am happy to report it works flawlessly with both the Clip and the Fuze. I am so excited that I can control the players through the head unit now. And the USB connection charges the player’s battery (or keeps the charge topped off). For what it’s worth, I’ve been using MSC mode just about since I got my first Clip.
Only negative so far, after 15 minutes of experimenting, is that the USB connection through the head unit will not read the players’ microSDHC card. No big deal though. The ability to control the player through the head unit far outweighs this slight disadvantage. If I absolutely have to listen to something on the microSDHC card, I’ll connect through the aux input as I’ve been doing for months.
I thought of one precaution I plan to take unless I hear from the forum’s gurus that I’m being needlessly overcautious: I will always start my car before connecting the Clip or Fuze to the USB input. This is to avoid a nasty electrical spike to the player when starting the car. Don’t know if this makes any sense at all. But since the player is getting power through the USB cable, I don’t want to take any chance of toasting the insides of my Clip or Fuze. The downside to doing this is that the player will start over with the first track each time, rather than remembering where it stopped when I turned the car off.
Thanks to the forum for a great idea!
