Help With My Passport 070A Please

Hi:

I have a My Passport that I am unable to access.  Here are my details (Winodws 8.1):

  • Computer makes sound when drive is connected, and is listed when selecting “safely remove USB devices”

  • Drive is not listed under my computer

  • I have changed view settings to uncheck “hide empty drives”

  • Under disk management I get message to initialize the drive in order to see it (I have not done this as I do not want to lose data)

  • Under disk management, drive is listed as Disk 1, unallocated, not initialized

Anything I can do to get my data off the drive?

Did you set any password protection on the drive? If yes, and if it was with the WD Utilities, you can try installing the applications on your computer so you can unlock the drive.

If no password was set on the drive, try testing the drive on a different computer with a different OS.

Also make sure that you have the latest drivers updates for the USB ports on the computer.

I have tried it on another OX with no success unfortunately, and all drivers are up to date.  On the Mac, I get the error message “The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer”.  I would love to be able to discern if any data is retrievable at all.  I am willing to spend some money to recover the data, but I am starting to get the feeling it is not recoverable.  Is there a utility I can run or something to go sector by sector to see if it can grab data or something?

Check online to see if you can use a data recovery on Mac that allows you to see the drive and the partition.
