Problem w 1TB MyPassport drive

I have a drive which one day stopped being accessible on my Mac.  It prompted me to repair it in Disk Utility, but the repair option was greyed out.  Now the drive doesn’t show up in Disk Utility at all.  However it does appear on a Windows system (although I can’t access the data).  The drive is physically working as I can feel it spinning up, there’s no clicking or what have you, and the USB is definitely working as Windows detects the drive.

If I were to attempt to make an image of the drive on Windows would I be able to recover the data from that Image using Mac Recovery tools? Or will the drive image be encrypted (I have read there is hardware encryption on my model).

Is there anyway I can get the disk to mount or be visible to an OSX system?

Model#:  wdbacx0010bbk-01.  It’s a 1 TB MyPassport 2.5" external drive.

Thanks!

Hello,

Since the drive is seen on a Windows computer, I recommend that you run a diagnostic on it using Western Digital’s Data lifeguard Diagnostics tool.

Please run the quick test and then the extended test.

Hi, that sounds like a data corruption problem, but just to be sure, use the USB cable that came bundled with the Passport, avoid using USB extension cables or USB hubs. If you need to recover your files, with the help of Google you should be able to find several data recovery programs.

I tried this a couple of days ago.  Unfort it doesn’t work.  The drive shows up as a USB device in devices & printers, unfort no disk shows up in explorer though.  I presume this is because it was a mac disk, the partitiion table will be GUID and the partitions themselves are standard journaled OSX partitions.
