Fuze screen only works if thumbwheel light is on

The display works but if I press any button or move the thumbwheel, the screen goes blank until the thumbwheel light turns off, and then you can see the screen again. How can I fix this?

1.  Manually re-install firmware. If this doesn’t help . . .
2.  Buy a new player.
