fuze+ and 32GB card problems

I have a 4G fuze+, 8G fuze+ and clip+. Using 8G, 16G, 32G sandisk SDHC cards. updated both fuze+ first thing. Have the latest available update. I have the same music files on all the cards, WMA on the 32G with 8G empty, mp3 on the 8and 16G cards. The 32G works fine in the clip+ but in the 4G and 8G fuze+'s it takes a long time to read the card. Then it may play files fine for 30-90 minutes then it freezes. Press until it goes black, press on, maybe several times before it starts. Takes 2-5 minutes to read everything and come up. It might work or not. If it does start ok it repeats this eventually. Sometimes it does not come up with out many tries The 8G and 16G workin all the players.

This is the 2nd 8G player that i have tried to use with the 32G card. Again the 32G card works fine in the clip+.

Would be nice to have less sensitivity on touch pad and able to use 32G cards. How about it company techs?

Your only hope for making the Fuze+ a little bit more usable is adding the Rockbox firmware to it.

If you wish to try to make it work without installing Rockbox, there are some files with the .dat extension you could try deleting. They contain info on how to play the files, but this device doesn’t always do such a good job in creating accurate info. If you delete these files, the Fuze+ will rebuild them automatically, although it will take some time to do. Also, there’s no way of knowing weather this will work the first time or not. You may have to repeat this several times.

Also, make sure your tags are set to ISO-8859-1. Search this forum for the word “MP3Tag” if  you don’t know how to do this.

Ultimately, though, I believe it will be much easier to follow Marvin_Martian’s advice and replace your firmware with Rockbox, which you can download from Rockbox.org.

PS: don’t expect the company techs to read anything on these forums. If they did that, they might actually fix the many problems the Fuze+ has, and you wouldn’t be having these difficulties in the first place.

Is there a way to set all of the tags to ISO-8859-1? Or do you have to do it one by one?

In MP3Tag, go into Tools > Options > Tags > Mpeg and set the Write Settings to ID3v1, ID3v2 and ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1.

Next, open you Music directory holding all your music files. You can do it all at once but remember, this may take a while. Or you can do it an Artist, or Album at a time. Highlight all the files you want to change (clicking one then using the Shift button while clicking on another will highlight all those inbetween).

Now all you have to do is click the SAVE icon (floppy disc). All highlighted files will be saved in the new format.

thank you very much! I will try it right away and get back to you.
