External usb disk 1TB MyBook Essentials

good morning everybody,

some months ago I connected the disk to a Windows 7 laptop and installed all its software (smartware), I encrypted my files with a password and copied on it several personal files. Some days ago someone tried to access the disk using my laptop, he didn’t know the password so he removed Smartware software and reinstalled it… during the new installation maybe the procedure asked to cancel the orginal partition on the disk and so the disk now is non formatted. From the disk management in Windows I see only a RAW partition and nothing more. Windows ask to format the disk but I don’t want to take other risks. Also Smartware procedure asks me to do other operations but I want to be sure not to do other damage at the data…

With a specific software I could extract some files from the disk, the most of them are in SWF (smartware files) format and they are of several GB… I copied them all on other disk.  In all forums I see that there is an hardware protection in the Western Digital bay so the best way is to extract data connecting directly the WD Bay, but which is the correct procedure to avoid losing definitively my documents. Is there a Western Digital software to create the same old enviroment so I can see my documents directly on the disk?

Or is there a method to decrypt the documents from SWF files without connecting WD bay?

Thanks in advance for all you support.

Best Regards

Mauro

Currently no.

You may try with a data recovery software to see if you can get the files. but most likely the partition was corrupted since someone tried to override the password protection.

I’ ve already tried with a recovery software. This extracts the SWF files but I can do nothing with them.

It’s like having restored nothing :frowning:

Thanks for your answer.
