As I underestand it, the Fuze is not compatible with iPod pin connections.
Does this mean I can’t use any of the many audio “docks” available in my local stores ?
( radio with a slot to connect youe iPod )
I’ve never seen a “Sanza Dock” at TARGET or BestBuy.
You can use SOME of them. If it has a standard plug that goes into your headphone jack you can use it. So any of the “Universal” Docks. BUT you CANNOT use the Ipod docks that require you plug the Ipod into the 30 pin connector because it will fry your Fuze. Alltec Lansing makes some docks for the Fuze but I dont know where they are available in retail stores. Also if you find a Dock for another Sansa product (View,E200 series, Connect, etc.) they will work for your fuze the only problem with them is that the fuze’s connector is not centered so you have to make sure it will fits.
You CANNOT use just any Altec-Lansing dock with the fuze. The model you want is the iM413, made specifically for the Sansa models. It says right on the box “Made for Sansa”
I have never seen a dock compatable with the Fuze/Sansas at any store, but maybe I missed one.

Correct! I should have mentioned that.
And it WAS an iM413 “Made For Sansa” dock I saw at Walmart. Of course that doesn’t mean ALL Walmarts carry them.
The Altec Lansing iM510 is a nice option too, it’s smaller (about the size of a pencil box), with a pop-out dock for the Sansa. It’s described under “docking audio” on the Altec Lansing website.
The iM510 is handy for stowing in a briefcase or backpack.
Other speaker units can be used, provided that they have a 3.5mm stereo jack that you can connect with the headphone cable. The disadvantage is that no power is supplied to the Sansa for charging.
There’s a really inexpensive option, use one of the Griffin power docks (at various vendors for under $20) with a USB AC adaptor, then plug in a basic set of PC amplified speakers. I have one set up with a nice set of Altec Lansing computer speakers, with a big subwoofer. It plays loud enough to make the dog hide under the desk. He’s not into Iron Maiden, I guess.

µsansa
I have the same setup, minus the sub. It works great.
I also use a Griffin Power dock and other accessories that works well with the Fuze:
Griffin Power Dock for Sansa.
With it you could charge and sync your Fuze to your computer’s USB with the included cable.
Search eBay for “Griffin Power Dock for Sansa . (some sellers at eBay ship overseas).
The Griffin PowerDock also has a standard 3.5mm ( 1/8" ) female audio port to connect to headphones, portable speakers, stereos etc. If you want to connect it to your stereo just plug an adapter like the Gigaware Audio cable 42-414 to the PowerDock and that’s it. There are other 1/8" stereo (3.5mm) male mini to 2 RCA male audio Y cables that will do the same.
Belkin Chargin Kit for Sandisk Sansa - model F8M05. I use it plugged to the Griffin PowerDock to charge my Fuze through an AC outlet to the wall or to a car cigarette lighter port.
Search eBay for “Belkin Kit Sansa” to use AC power and car power instead of plugin your Fuze to the computer. The adapters plug easily to the Power dock…
If anyone knows how to get hold of the im413 in the UK I’d be keen to hear.
We seem to have nothing available specific to the Sansa.
Alternatively, if anyone Sateside is planning a trip to the UK anytime soon and fancies carrying a bit of extra baggage, let me know
Forgive my ignorance, but the only time I was ever in the UK was a stop-over on my way to Germany . . . Is the electrical power set-up over there based on 110v 60a? I know most parts of Europe are on a 220v grid. So getting one made for the States may not be a viable option for you, regardless of the cost.

At least you wouldn’t have to worry about the steering wheel being on the ‘wrong’ side. :smileyvery-happy:
Ah, you have an interesting point, but there is a simple solution. For the UK, mains voltage is 220-240v 50Hz with the BS-1363 3-pin plug. Looking at the iM413 rear panel, it requires 5v DC with a standard cocentric power jack.
Perhaps, the iM413 is only supplied with a 110v AC adaptor. A substitute should be simple to find.
One last thought: the integrated FM radio may be an issue, as it covers the US standard FM band, with odd-step 200 KHz spacing, e.g. 100.1, 100.3… Of course, the AUX input and dock are the primary needs.
I recently saw an interesting item on eBay. It is an iPod dock adapter cable. It has a mini stereo plug on one end for connection to anything with a mini headphone jack. The other side is an iPod female dock connector/adapter. Very useful for those who want to utilize iPod accessories (will need modification to a male connector). They were priced too high at $15US + shipping.
I’m going to attempt to make one from a Sansa original cable, since I have a mountain of them. Should be no problem getting sound output. Will take some digging to get detect, enable and charging worked out. Also the female end needs to be swapped with a male. Will be testing hookup on a Klipsch iGroove SXT.
