Discard fake SSD

I just bought a SanDisk Portable Extreme SSD in Amazon.com. When I try to register it in the web page https://kb.sandisk.com/ it says Invalid seral No. It it posible that Amazon is selling fake SanDisk SSD?

I got the Sandisk Extreme back in January, it’s not the Pro version, it’s got 2 TB of storage. But man, it’s been giving me constant Error Code -36 messages and the speed is painfully slow.I even lost some files, but thank goodness. Ended up hittin’ up EaseUS and they helped me get my folders back. Lesson learned though - always have a backup on another brand device.SanDisk Extreme SSD Failure: Tips to Prevent from Further Damage

I am in the exact same situation. The drive has been flaky since day 1 on macOS and i went to file a warranty claim, but it says “invalid serial no.”. I know I selected the correct drive as it’s the only Extreme 4TB in the list (although it says v2, and mine doesn’t specify v1 vs v2). Did you ever figure out if yours was counterfeit? HOw did you resolve this?
