Device name changed after firmware update

I’ve updated the device firmware with the Windows program they let you download through WD/SanDisk website and the firmware updated correctly. Now the device instead of showing “SanDisk something” is now showing “ASMT 2360 NVME Media”.

The drive works correctly but I wonder whether this was a problem. The firmware update software on windows recognises the drive even with this name as, when I try to use the same firmware update software, I’m told the firmware is already the most recent.

While your drive is functioning properly, the unexpected change in its name after the update is concerning. Although as you say the firmware update software still recognizes the drive and confirms it updated, this situation warrants further investigation. To ensure the long term reliability of sandisk, I would suggest you to verify its performance using disk management tools, you can confirm its details via contacting Sandisk support.

Thanks for answering.

Thanks for saving my day.

The new name likely reflects the underlying controller or the drive’s internal components, rather than indicating a problem. As long as the drive works properly and the firmware is up to date, it shouldn’t cause any issues. Just keep an eye on the performance and functionality, and if everything continues to work fine, there’s no need to worry. Filemail has been my go-to for sharing large project files with clients. Last week, I sent a 4.8 GB file containing high-resolution designs, and the process was seamless. The upload speed was excellent, and the platform’s simplicity saved me so much time. My client appreciated the download link’s ease of use, and the files stayed secure. I’m so impressed by how reliable this service is. Highly recommended for professionals!
